Our workshop is fully equipped with the following tools for member use:

Members may also bring their own tools to the Sawhorse (at your own risk), though it is advisable not to leave them there. Tools can be borrowed from the Sawhorse — please record your name, phone number, the tool borrowed, and the date on the chalkboard.

How to Become a Member

To become a member of the Sawhorse all you need to do is go through a 15-minute orientation which outlines various safety items and things to be aware of when using the sawhorse.

Safety & Shop Rules

Make safety your priority — wear your safety glasses when operating equipment.

• While at the Sawhorse, it is advisable to let someone know you are there and how long you will be — unforeseen accidents can and do happen. It is also recommended you do not work alone.
• When entering the compound, ensure the entrance gates are secured open using the ground pegs. During business hours it is advisable to close the gate behind you and keep the padlock with you so no one accidentally locks you in.
• Ensure the compound gate is closed and locked when you leave. If others are still in the compound when you go, pass the lock to them and ask them to lock up.
• Turn on the dust collection system before operating the woodworking tools. If dust gets heavy in the air, turn on the exhaust fan — wood dust will set off the alarm.
• If the alarm does go off, immediately use the wall phone to notify the fire department.
• There are three fire extinguishers in the Sawhorse: two on the wall near the entrance door, and a third on the wall to the left of the compound mitre saw.
• Emergency red switch: Located next to the entrance door, to the left of the compound mitre saw. In an emergency (a bad cut, heart attack, etc.), call 911 on the wall phone. If you are able, flip the red switch down — an alarm horn will sound through the compound to alert others nearby to come and check on you.
• If you leave a partially completed project in the Sawhorse, please leave your name and phone number with your job material.
• If equipment breaks down, a saw blade is getting dull, or sanding devices are getting too smooth to use, please contact Paul Trepanier.
• Please clean up the tools and your dust before you leave.

Storage Lockers

The workshop has 33 storage lockers for member use. If you have a locker that you no longer use, please contact the Administrative Office to let them know you would like to relinquish it — we have members on the waitlist.
